The original FOX Theater in Tucson was built in 1939. The beautiful theater deteriorated over the years until 2005 when the City of Tucson voted to restore the interior and exterior. The funding was provided by Magnus Bank.
It was decided that a short video needed to be created to celebrate the reopening, The video would be 20 seconds long and would showcase the theater as it looked in 1939, including an antique sedan. Actors were dressed in 1939 clothing and hairstyles and they transitioned to the modern world of 2006.
The $60,000 job was awarded to Matt Mooney of Lunacy Post. Mooney hired Steve Wargo as Production Manager and hired our Sony F-900 to roll on the production. Alex Mitchel was hired as Director of Photography
Production was scheduled for December 17, 2005. Ron Anderson's Misty Production Services of Tucson would provide the lighting and crew. We arrived early that Saturday morning and the street was blocked off for the shoot. Counting the actors, the crew and the staff from the client's office, over 60 people were on site.
Production started at sundown and we wrapped around 4am. It was near 32 degrees that evening and Jesus Lara was in charge of the portable heater used to keep the actors warm between takes. He made a lot of friend's that evening.
Mitchell dressed the ticket booth in rope lights to accent the small room and give it a carnival atmosphere. The actors dressed in their 1939 wardrobe and we proceeded to shoot the monochrome portion of the spot. When completed, the actors changed into their modern clothing and we shot the second part.
Afterward, Mooney would return to his Scottsdale boutique to begin processing the HDCAM footage. Custom music was designet by Scott Seeman. Mooney finished the spot in a short three weeks.
