Will HD survive in the future?
Of course it will. HD has saved the industry millions in
film stock and processing charges. A director no longer has to hold a set and/or the actors until they review the dailies from a day's production. Immediately after a take, the footage can be reviewed and decisions are made on the spot.
For extreme image situations, a new camera has appeared on the horizon. It is known as the Red One Cinema camera. It is capable of shooting a 2.7k picture for specialized graphics work like green screen or high end compositing. Because this camera is still in the experimental stage, we have decided to avoid using it until the camera is a thoroughly tested and proven unit. It has been used by many Hollywood production teams and they carry spare cameras as backups because the RED is known to overheat and stop working for unpredictable periods of time.
